I had to select a classic game character for a remake in a CGworkshop. Decided to go with Ralf from the MetalSlug series. I went for a semi stylized anatomy, so it is a tad beefed up. The final character is around 9000 tri's, with 2048 diffuse, normal, and spec maps... rigged and presented in Marmoset real-time render engine.

I think this guy is great, and would work well in games, I would really just try and push the some of the details in the skin and clothing to give it that further bit of realism. I would say that in order to get the skin working right even in gaming you would maybe need to work further into getting the specular to function better in any lighting scene. That is to see further differentiation in the materials.
Strong Points:the model is fantastic, with some great exaggeration of the body... I think this works well and is in proportion
Weak Points:texture work could be pushed, hair could be pushed a little also

I love the detail of his muscles, it really brings out his hardcore style which is relative to the metal slug sega. the face detail is awesome. you really captured the characters expression and his clothes do not have too much depth which I like so great job:)
Strong Points:This is a very high quality piece of work, your modelling skills are really inspiring, I can clearly see this character and his characteristics. your character is rendered out perfectly. I would love to gain some tips on how you model, if you know any references on how you began modelling i would love to hear. overall in a general sense I love the look of your character, he has a badass appeal which can really communicate to its audiences and it shows relevance to the type of characters I would see in metal slug. I could see this working. :)
Weak Points:there really isnt anything bad to say other than the muscles being big but to be honest, I know you did this purposely for the look of the metal slug character. other than that, I can't say anything bad about it, you did a great job.
Recommendations:i would love to see a rebellious teenager or maybe a cloaked man of some sort to see how you model it. it would be very interesting.

Very nice modelling and texturing piece, it might be given more realistic impression if you control the specularity of the skin and fabrics by specular map and some of the cloth wrinkles are too loose for the shirt like the ones on top of his belt, edges are looking tight but front is looking loose. I loved the quality of the output, how you generate the normal maps and bake into lowpoly model, working amazing.
Strong Points:Attention to Detail, Anatomy, Character Design, Stylization for games.
