North swedish horse

This was a project of mine where I wanted to test my skills in realistic creature modelling.
I also wanted to se in how long it would take, and finally it took me 2 days of modelling, 1 day of UV mapping and 1 day to texture. Sadly I'm poor as hell with my rendering skills- as you might see.
From the start this was just a modelling projekt for myself- but now half a year later, I will probably try and rig it and later animate it- since my true dream is being a creature animator. But we'll see about that in the future.
I will show a couple of images, of how I was progressing, kind of like a daily report I kept back then.
The horse was modelled in maya 2010, some minor sculpting on the muscles and leg hair in zbrush, pretty unnecessary since it worked well in maya- but I wanted to try zbrush too. Uvmapped in maya, textures and normalmaps created in Adobe photoshop.
The mane was created with alpha planes, I didn't have the time- or knowledge to make dynamic hair- that is a problem I'll deal with when I decide to rig and animate it.
Enjoy this gallery and feel free to give me any critique.

some great work here, keep pushing in this direction. Try some other creatures, and maybe some hardsurface to give some variation. But you have a nice style.
Strong Points:has good visual appeal, modeling is working but could be improved muscles
Weak Points:textures could be made better
Recommendations:The final shot has great appeal I think, almost looks like a painting! It definitely could do with some improving in some areas of the muscle sculpt, but your not far off. The textures looks like there is still light in the base maps, you should always make sure there is no lighting in the colour, or else you ended up lighting already lite textures (if that makes sense).

I liked the feel of the visual, the modelling looked good and the textures.

The lighting in the final render is a little bit blowout in the background and there isn't enough light reflected light between the model and the environment. These points are only miner the over look is great, keep up the good work.
