TOPIC: F.A.Q
#1408
F.A.Q 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Just wondering if you guys would care to place an F.A.Q sticky on the creatures and critters forum thread.

A few that have popped up for me regarding the rules.

I realize that were onrequired to
a. A still render of your Creature or Critter model – (simple shader only, no textures allowed)
b. A turntable movie of the posed character (more details given closer to competition completion)

So ...........what that telles me is that texturing my beastie will not have any effect on the voting whatsoever .. ???

But i am also assuming that we are still allowed to colour our critter/creature and come up with a killer final render as long as the received and submitted piece is a clay shader render only.

Hey Peculiarpatterns

I'm actually in the middle of creating a whole FAQ for the site but I'm happy to answer any questions in this thread that you've started until it's up and running.

You're absolutely right, texturing your creature or critter will have no effect what so ever in the judging of the model. We want to encourage killer final renders using simple MatCaps/Shaders/Material.

There will be some more information on this very soon!

cheers

I know you are writing a faq on this but I have a noobie question:

Does a displacement map on a maya render count as a texture if I have the same model in zbrush at the full polycount?

Using a displacement map in your final render is allowed if you still have the full res version in another application like Zbrush.

Don't know if you will see this Andrew but...

Are we allowed to use MORE the 1 matcap/shaders/material on the model OR do we use 1 matcap for the whole thing. And is there a specific shader we need to use? Simple as in clay like or can we make our own matcap to show off the texturing.

Thanks!

Since the winning sculptures will be printed in one material we are going to specify that the final renders should be one material too. We don't mind what matcap/shader/material you use, that part is up to you.

Somewhere I read your post Andrew that says 1 entry per post. Are we allowed to enter more than once if we start a new thread?

Can you enter more than once? 1 Year, 2 Months ago
You are allowed to enter as many times as you would like. However, you must create a new thread for each entry and follow the same submission rules.

Re:F.A.Q 1 Year, 2 Months ago
I´d love to enter with another creature because I know I´ll finish my first within the next 2weeks for sure.

"you must create a new thread for each entry and follow the same submission rules."

Does that mean that we have to enter with the second creature/critter before it´s June 7th?
I won´t accomplish to finish my first creature before that date.
So I´d love to know if we are allowed to start a second thread although the first creature/critter is not finished?

Thanks in advance

Hey Moni, You don't have to have finished your 1st model to enter a second. you just have to start your new thread BY the June entry date and update that thread at least once a week with your progress. Thats the way i understood it.

Re:F.A.Q 1 Year, 2 Months ago
yeah kingroaw that's how I read it, as long as your second entry's sketch and backstory are posted in your new thread by the June deadline it should be fine...is that correct Andrew?
