Pin-Up: Modeling and Texturing Project 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Hi There,

Loving the new CGCoach arena!!!

Am beginning a 3D modeling and texturing project, and would like advice and opinions on the current designs for my piece.

The designs are currently a mix-match of photographs and props created in Photoshop. But I intend to produce everything to a photo-real finish. (I realise that the shadows and light sources are incorrect)

Would like advice on which design works the best. Composition, colour-scheme, does the model look balanced, does she fit her environment?

Thanks for reading

I feel that 2 is the best because she is the main focus of the picture. Unlike the bottom three, the space above her head isn't noticable. I also prefer the suit cases you have used on that one and also the colour is a little lighter than 1 which makes her look better imo.

Hope this helps

Hey Holly

This is a great idea for a project and there is some great reference inspiration out there for pinup artworks from the 40s-60s. Try looking for both illustrations and airbrushing.

As for which composition to pick... in my opinion, the top three images work better than the bottom three. The reason for this is that the railing cuts the model in half and is distracting for the lower seated positions.

The actual pose of the model is great and I think that you will actually find an even better composition once you have a proxy mesh built in 3D. I would like to see a lower camera POV, something eye-level could be nice too.

Are you planning on placing in a horizon line? At the moment the camera feels quite high and needs a horizon... or are you going for a studio setup with simple backdrop?

Personally I like the idea of going for a really nicely controlled studio setup with an infinite backdrop and model sitting on the suitcases without any decking or railing. A lot of the vintage pin-up art is done in this manner and it really focuses in on the beauty of the model.

Good luck with this. Really try and lock in a base pose before adding in any detail or detailed clothing. Without a perfectly balanced pose and expression you will really struggle to make it photo realistic.

cheers

Hi Sam,

Thank you for these pin-up inspirations, really like the sailor girl - her legs look great.
The Dark Snow white is nicely twisted,

Finished (pretty much with the modeling), just trying out poses in Zbrush, not quite got it yet, then will move on to the texturing, will post soon

Thanks again

Hi

Here is my Sailor Girl perched on the handrail of a cruise ship.
Struggling to get her pose look balanced - these are my Badly Zbrush Transposed attempts at poses (and different angles of the ship's handrail)

Any advice on how to balance out the pose would be appreciated

Thank you
