Victorian Woman WIP 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Hi all!

I'm Lies and I'm a Master student at Bournemouth University studying 3D computer animation.

I'm currently working on my master project and I would love to get some feedback.

I’m doing a high res, realistic modelling project for my masters where I’m creating a Victorian woman from the early 1880’s situated in an outside environment. She has just left a Venetian dinner party and is now in front of the house. She is reaching for a moth, flying around a lantern while taking off her mask (literally and metaphorically). She is experiencing a moment of rare freedom and innocence away from her constricted life.

This is the concept art:

And this is where I am now:

I'm using both XSI and ZBrush to complete this project.

Any feedback and suggestions are greatly appreciated at this stage of the project!

Thanks,
Lies

The cloth folds are coming along nicely, definitely has the right feel. Her face looks a bit tight though, like her skin is being stretched back. Good modeling.

Thanks Scottimation for the feedback! I hadn't noticed it before, but you're right about the face. I'll smooth out the features on the side a bit to make it look less stretched.

The dress is almost finished. I've added some more details and changed the pose a little bit since the last post:

The head in colour is the latest version of the head with the hair attached to the head instead of a separate object.

I'm quite happy with the head in general, but I'm not really sure about the mouth. It has a "duck" shape, and although someone already told me how to change it, I still can't seem to get it right.

Cheers,
Lies

Should be a cool image. I'm not the best painter but here's a quick sketch with the head, hopefully it's useful

G'Day Lies

Your sculpt is coming along great. The clothing looks awesome. I especially love the front of her top.

I am by no means a professional but here is my opinion.

I would change the face a little bit. Think about where the skull comes through in the face. Like what Jeremy has done. He has added a bit of a brow which you can see on the edge of her face. Also I would hint a bit more at her temples - bring them in a bit.
Her cheek bones are good but I would soften up the line just a touch near her ear where her jaw bone would run down.

I like what Jeremy has done with her cheeks but you could also keep a bit of the underside of her cheek bones if you wish.

The lips at the sides where the opening turns down could be brought in a bit and the skin on the edges bought out. She looks like she in smiling in the sculpt so if you look at your own mouth and smile you'll see that it stretches the skin around your teeth and the cheeks start to fold over the mouth just a bit and you get the fold from the nose down to the edges of the mouth. I hope you understand what I am saying I am having trouble explaining what I mean.

Maybe you could also lower the point where the chin starts below the mouth as well. Make it start roughly a third of the way down.

The ear looks good but some anatomy is wrong (I will use the anatomical names for this to try and make it clearer).

The leg of the helix (where it ends inside the ear) shouldn't fold forward like it does at the end. It should continue around, forming an exaggerated question mark that turns in on itself and ends at the anti-helix.

She also doesn't seem to have a Tragus (the hump at the front) or an earhole but its hard to tell from the image.

I would deepen inside the anti-helix to bring out the Anti-tragus
more. There is an image of an ear with the parts here chestofbooks.com/health/anatomy/Human-Bo...Of-The-Forearm.html.

Her neck behind her ear looks like it bulging out a bit. It looks like Jeremy has fixed it a bit but I would also bring it in a bit more up the top.

Her hair line is very straight. Bing the hair just above the ears forward. You could also give her sideburns. They can be tied up into her hair like the rest of it but where you have the hair starting in this area is too high making it look like a wig.

Also next time if you upload a front and side view of her face as well it may help to give us a better idea of what you can fix.

I really hope this helps

Hey all!

Sorry for my long absence! I've been quite busy over the past months.

Rillanon, thank you for the feedback! Unfortunately, I couldn't change the model anymore because of the deadline, but I'll certainly take it into account when doing my next project.

Here are some final stills and final ZBrush model, I hope you like it! More images and turntable can be seen on my website:

Congratulations Lies.

It is a beautiful image. The modelling is great but I especially love the texturing work you did. The mask is awesome, it feels like I could enter an antiques shop and see that sitting there for sale. I would love to see that in a turntable

Good stuff.
