a.vector's sketchbook 9 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Hi all,

Thought I'd add a thread to post random wip images. Feel free to crit I allways appreciate it

To start with this is a re-run of a old image based on a Feng drawing I did to test out this method of rendering with ZBrush and Photoshop, this is the first stab I took, I'll probably redo it again some time now that I know how it all works

Comp in Photoshop:

Great work Andrew. You've matched the concept from Feng really well. Btw, he is my favourite concept artist, so nice choice of design too!

I'm not sure if it's my monitor at home, but the image is a little dark and I'm missing some of your cool details. Any chance of increasing the ambient lighting and dropping on a lighter background?

I loaded up the concept image and you've matched it really well. The only things I would suggest is to slightly increase the diameter of the exhaust to make it more prominent. I also get the impression this is machine has off-road capabilities. With that in mind I would make the rear wheel more chunky with a fat tread on it. At the moment it's really flat like a formula 1 tyre. You could probably raise it a little more into the back of the motorcycle too. Also, I'm sure you'll get to it, but I really like in the concept how the window panels are semi-transparent and you can see a hint of the internals. Would be great to add something in the next round of tweaks if you are going to keep pushing this one.

Overall, really impressive match of a single ref image and nice rendering with Zbrush - something I haven't tried myself. Keep up the cool work.

cheers

Hey Andrew, thank you for the kind words I am definitely going to keep pushing this image Feng is my fav aswell, who else

You are correct the image is way to dark, so I will try and lighten it up on the next version. I decided to tackle fixing up the rear wheel first as it had been bothering me:

Yeah the internals will be cool, added to todo list as well as upping the exhaust. I might also add the brake (I think it's a brake) thing that is next to the exhaust, it might make the rear wheel feel more connected. Cool, thanks for the crit, I'll keep at it!

hey energise, thanks for the comments It was actually cool making the tire, I made a disp map in photoshop and applied it in zbrush, kanji fonts made the cool scrible PS How r enjoying our new toys?

Here are some minor updates with some new angles (note lack of interior meant no back shot and bad front wheel )

Trying to cover the bike in a level of fine sculpted detail and then I'm gonna redo the zbrush/photoshop render and add some or other funky background...

Any crit feel free!!

ok.. here it is. I don`t know what`s going on -- sometimes I just don`t see things!
My eyes aren`t what they were
However that be -- this model is looking awesome! Very cool design! I wouldn`t try to model something like that at the moment. Looks like a lot of hard work. Kudos!
Is this all Zbrush?
I read the whole thread but I`m not sure if I missed something.. you know -- my eyes.

hey moni, lol - yeah it happens after staring at zbrush for more than 34455676 hours at a time thanks for the comments, i did the base model in blender, which btw is one of the best modellng tools out there, and then did the group smoothing in max and finally the detail sculpting in good 'ol zbrush.

I made a mistake in my pipeline though, forgot to save out subtool masks b4 dropping the model so I gotta do the details again Hopefully I'll get to it in the next week as I have some more time now.

I think they are all ok. One thing that I think will really help is to add a ground plan, even if it's just used for shadow casting and you still see your background. Also, depending on how much time you have, it would be great to add something to image that gives a sense of scale. Maybe you could grab a default character rig and pose him/her next the bike as a complete silhouette so the image is still about the bike.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
cheers

Andrew`s tip with the ground plane and the silhouette sounds good.
Sorry, I`m not a big help when it comes to things like that.
I always decide spontaneous and I think the second one is my favourite. But I can`t tell you why exactly.
