Zbrush retopo question! :P 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hi!

I´ve been trying to learn the retopo tools in ZB lately. They are awesome!!! the retopo projection is mindblowing!!

But there is one thing I havent found yet! so here I am reaching out to you fellow ZB masters

what im looking for is a way to bring a "lowest level mesh" into ZB and then use some kind of retopo projection to get the highest level details applied to it

Im sure its a stupid question but wait! I have one more

is it possible to bring a "half done" retopo mesh from maya into ZB and continue to finish it or do I have to finish it using for example nex/3dcoat and then refere to the previous question? (what I mean is that I´m satisfied with the topology of the hands and head etc but just wanna redo lets say the pecs)

hope some of this makes sense hehe.

cheers /energise

Hey Jonas, yes i think these are both possible. If you have the low poly version of your mesh loaded then select a zsphere and attach the hi rez mesh, then select topology and choose the low rez mesh you get the low rez cage around the hi rez version. I think you could do the same with your half finished mesh too and then use the retopo tools to adjust it

Use the project features (at the bottom of the tools drop down ) to add detail from the hi rez mesh to the new low poly one , you will have to crack the adaptive skin levels up to the desired level to see heavy details

The best place to look for this kinda stuff is this awesome thread:

Hope this helps a bit

1.import a low poly mesh from 3d app like MAX / MAYA
2.divide it to sub level 6 or more
3.append into same subtool as high mesh (under it)
4.then with low selected press the project all button! (located next to rename sub tool)
5.high detail will be project now onto the new retopol mesh

It's a proximity base projection in ZB so if you want to pose it I would just suggest doing the projection on the unposed mesh if your high-res isn't posed. Once the projection is finished then just re-import the posed mesh on level 1 of your new tool and it should pop into the posed position as in mudbox.
